Meeting Minutes
Date: April 12th, 2005
Time: 10:00 am to 11:30 am

Attendees:
  • Ruchi Dubey
  • Pradeep Kadiyala
  • David Portman
  • Namita Singla

Discussion:
  • GeneX and Protex. Students considered progress, especially regarding feature development.
    • Ruchi demonstrated "DIFF" function for GeneX.  DIFF pops up a new window in which one can view the differences between two DNA sequences, which are taken from each of the two GeneX work panels.
    • David demonstrated a popup menu function for the History feature in Protex. Team members thought that it might be possible to put the protein color inside the History Cell.  David agreed to look into such a feature.

  • VGL and Installer.
    • Pradeep demonstrated the "Save Work As..." feature of VGL.
      • VGL uses separate folders holding "Work" and "Problems."  Team members asked Pradeep to create the corresponding "Work" and "Problems" folders inside a new "VGL" folder.  These folders should be the default for the FileChooser.
      • Namita discovered a bug that occurs if one saves work for which only the "Offspring" panel is active--that is, if the other (work) panels are empty.  Pradeep said that he will address that bug.
    • Installer requires a version of the GPL license.  David said that he will make one available on the hidden "beta_release" page.  [IT IS THERE NOW. --DAP]
    • Installer needs to be customized so that it puts everything in the right places (folders) on Install, and properly cleans up the whole mess on Uninstall.

  • MGX project bug lists on SourceForge.com.  Professor Bolker has given Ruchi permission for GeneXplorer.  Ruchi said that she will give permissions for that project to the rest of the team.

  • Final poster presentation.  Ruchi and Pradeep will begin to put together the poster(s) for MGX.  The applications are written in Java, so the MGX team is planning to run demos on the blade machines in the department's Unix lab.
