Discussion: |
- Namita shared her latest drawings of a
prototype conforming GUI for Protex, VGL and GeneX. These
drawings reflect a consensus reached last week by the MGX student
developers and Professor White.
- The students shared their ideas
concerning the confiorming GUI with Professor Bolker after he joined
the meeting.
- Professor Bolker suggested that
the students write an algorithm calculating differences. This
algorithm would function like the UNIX "diff" command. Such an
alogorithm could be used to compute differences between two amino
acid (polypeptide) chains (in Protex) or between two DNA
sequences (in GeneX).
- Professor Bolker also noted, however,
that biologists may have a special way of calculating and showing the
differences between DNA sequences. The MGX student developers
(that is, David or Ruchi) will investigate this topic further.
- Professor said that VGL Help was written by Professor White
two years ago. He suggested that the students ask Professor White
about writing similar Help documents for GeneX and Protex.
- Ruchi described changes she has made to
the GeneX code. David encouraged her to begin building the
conforming GUI-GeneX (after Professor White approves it).
- Pradeep said that he is working on the
conforming GUI-VGL. So far he has focused on building the
application History feature.
- David shared some of the printed material
he has found concerning the Java Foundation Classes (JFC) APIs for Drag
and Drop and Java 2D Graphics. He intends to code a working
example for image drag and drop. He suggested that Namita will be
able to use the proposed working example as a model for drag and drop
functionality in the conforming GUI-Protex.
- David said that he will continue to write
the MGX Meeting Minutes, and asked Ruchi to write (or at least provide
input for) the weekly To-Do Lists.
- The students agreed to meet at least once
a week throughout the spring semester. The proposed set meeting
time is Tuesday at 10:00 AM. (Professor White has said that he
too is usually available at this hour on Tuesdays.)
